“CALLY. THESE ARE LIKE, WOOL CARPETS.”

WHITE CARPETS

STUCK IN FRAZ’S BEDROOM ON THE STICKIEST LONDON SWEAT-FEST OF THE YEAR, CALLY AND FRAZ LISTEN TO HER LANDLORD OBSESSIVELY HOOVER THE CARPETS.

WHITE CARPETS is a LGBTQ five minute short film on the subject of relationships, living with each other, and accepting the stains we get all over the carpets.

It was shot in June ‘21 with a small crew. DP Emma Turner created some stunning overhead images and set designer Evie Ayres-Townshend conceived the perfect messy bedroom. Marie Osman and Chloe Doherty played the leads and filled the screen with wit, sex and joy. A joy to work on this one.

INVISIBLE PEOPLE

WRITER/PRODUCER HANNAH WEST’S INTEREST IN THE PLIGHT OF HOMELESS AND MARGINALISED PEOPLE LED HER TO WRITE AND PRODUCE A FILM ABOUT A WOMAN SO LONELY SHE HAD TO INVENT HER FRIENDS.

This was an impressive production, with a plethora of locations and a large cast and crew made up of a lot of ALRA students and graduates.

IT WAS INCREDIBLE TO WORK WITH SO MANY DEDICATED PEOPLE. THE FILM DID WELL ON THE CIRCUIT, GETTING US BEST ACTRESS AND BEST DIRECTOR AT ONIROS!

WEST

WE WANTED TO IMAGINE WHAT FRED AND ROSE WEST’S FIRST DATE WOULD BE LIKE. HOW do TWO PEOPLE WHO HAVE REJECTED HUMANITY CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER?

WE TALKED TONY PITTS (RIDING TRILOGy, FUNNY COW) into playing Fred and found newcomer Rachel salisbury (WHO BLEW ME AWAY) FOR ROSE.

I WANTED TO CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE OF DANGER AND DREAD AND SEX AND POSSESSION. I WANTED TO SEE FRED CRY. I WANTED TO RECREATE AN OLD MAN’S PUB IN GLOUCESTER. FOR A TWO DAY SHOOT IT WAS A BIG ASK. BUT I LEARNT A LOT.
